Brimming

Installation with boat and apples, 2012

These works recognise the historic importance of Sullivans Cove as a shipping centre and the role it played in the growth of Tasmania’s export fruit industry. Ships brimming with apples, apricots, pears, and a bounty of other produce came in and out of Sullivans Cove. Much of the fruit was exported fresh, some of it was processed in this very room. The wooden columns throughout the Long Gallery at Salamanca Art Centre still bear the marks made by fruit worker’s knives at the end of their shift.
